Our Story
Born from a need that wasn't being met
Too many people in Central Florida were falling through the cracks — seniors on fixed incomes, veterans transitioning out of service, working adults one paycheck from homelessness, and individuals re-entering society after incarceration. Traditional housing options required credit checks, large deposits, and rental histories that many simply didn't have.
1st Florida Housing Solutions was created to fill that gap. By offering furnished, move-in ready rooms with all utilities included and a low $250 deposit, we remove the barriers that keep people from getting housed.
Today we operate homes across Lakeland, Winter Haven, and Lake Wales — and we're committed to growing our impact throughout Polk County and beyond.

Bernice Brown founded 1st Florida Housing Solutions after witnessing firsthand how difficult it was for vulnerable individuals to find safe, affordable housing in Central Florida. Driven by compassion and a commitment to community, she built an organization that puts people first — offering not just a room, but a real chance at stability.
